Clear to partly Cloudy skies greet your Sunday after the winter wonderland snow. December 5Th seems to be the magic date for snow . It has happened 5 times on this date now this decade. So why not finish out this decade with one.
Temperatures were in the 20's and 30's and ranged from 22 at Walpack to 35 in West Cape May..
There was lake effect snow showers and flurries downwind the Great lakes into Western and Central NY and PA.. accounting for snow pack I will side with the NAM Mos Guidance for temperatures today..with generally Sunny skies as High Pressure builds in the wake of Saturday's storm..Readings will remain in the mid and upper 30's to lower 30's this afternoon.
Skies will generally be Sunny with some passing clouds especially Northern Sections this afternoon. Increasing High Cloudiness Tonight ... Temperatures will fall back from the low and mid 20's to lower 30's.
Forecast Discussion through The Week
High pressure will be moving offshore Monday with a southerly return flow on the back side. Temperatures will warm and clouds will increase as a shortwave approaches from the west followed by cold air advection with a frontal passage Monday late. Skies will clear off Monday night followed by Mostly Sunny weather on Tuesday followed by Increasing Cloudiness...Temperatures will be generally in the upper 30's and lower 40's Monday and Tuesday and in the low and upper 20's Monday night.
A split flow pattern continues with a Panhandle hook storm moving from the Southern Plains to the Great lakes with low pressure developing along the triple point off the mid Atlantic Wednesday. A surge of warm air advection over the top of a chilly ground may initially lead to some frozen precipitation to start the event off after Midnight Tuesday. The question will be how much low level cold air remains in place as High pressure will be anchored over our northern States and departing to offshore Wednesday Morning.
The onset of the precipitation may begin as snow and transition to a mix before going to rain and becoming heavy at times on Wednesday.
Winter Weather Advisories may be needed and roadways may become slick prior to sunrise Wednesday morning... Temperatures will be hovering in the 20's and lower 30's before Sunrise as the precipitaion heads in. You will want to pay attention to later forecast and statements as this timeframe will be critical to travel Wednesday Morning especially over higher Elevations of Northern Nj and the Hudson Valley /Poconos Regions and Interstate Roadways...
Low pressure will develop off the Delmarva and a slug at heavy precipitation may move right over the metropolitan area Wednesday Morning as the storm occludes over the Great lakes. The front will reach the coast later Wednesday afternoon followed by clearing and windy weather Thursday
